Hi all It's early days yet and I know I'm slow at adding new writers but have just started this little project: Writers of Wales A to Z database of all Welsh or Welsh connected authors past and present. http://www.welshwriters.co.uk I've put up the best or most famous first and am slowly adding more when time allows... I have a list of 100+ to go through so hope to get 200 by next year Appreciate any shares of the web address etc. Thanks Dave

Hi everyone (bore da!). I'm just popping this up here in case you're interested. There's a literary festival at Gladstone's Library in Hawarden, North Wales. They're doing an online version for the first time this year, so people from N/America can feel free to join in. Info here: Gladfest is back (gladstoneslibrary.org) Also, just look at the place!

Welsh boat names
12/30/10 02:07:04AM, by Gregg Watts
I purchased a wooden kayak and would like to personalize it with a name and possibly some inlay. It's a Pygmy Kayak Arctic Tern and glancing in my dictionary I found ysgraell gogledd and ysgraen gogledd as possibilities. I have the gogledd down, but how on god's green valley do you pronounce ysgraen or ysgraell? And what is the difference? Masculine/feminine? Singular/plural? I thought playing off the image of the tern might have great possibilities for some Celtic knotwork as an inlay in the...
Welsh is "unrecognised" on Kindle
04/11/13 08:59:48PM, by Gaynor Madoc Leonard
The Welsh publisher, Y Lolfa, currently has a petition asking Amazon topublish Welsh language books on Kindle. http://www.deisebelyfrau.org/ (bilingual). A report in today'sWestern Mail tells of how Y Lolfa published some Welsh books last year on Kindle but had to describe them as English as Welsh is unsupported on Amazon's Kindle. Languages such as Galician, Catalan and Basque are apparently supported but Kindle has no immediate plans to support Welsh. They have recently accepted a...

Welsh pubs in NYC

We'll be heading back to visit family in New York later this month and wondered if anybody had any good recommendations for a Welsh pint or bite to eat in any of the boroughs.
Welsh fortune-tellers
04/05/11 11:07:14AM, by Gaynor Madoc Leonard
I'm reading Giles Tremlett's biography of Catherine of Aragon at the moment in which he states the following (when she went to join Prince Arthur, her then husband, at Ludlow Castle, where he oversaw the Welsh Marches):"If Catherine knew anything at all about the Welsh before she arrived in Ludlow, it would have been what Ayala had written to her parents a few years before she set sail. He warned that the Welsh were renowned fortune-tellers. He drew comparisons with Spain's own, supposedly...
Welsh soul food
05/29/11 02:44:33PM, by m.c. chuka
I'm really new to exploring the culture of my Welsh (or is it more appropriate to say Cymru?) ancestors. My husband, who is Italian and Cuban, has a familial history of incredible recipes. I'm wondering what kind of cuisine the Welsh consider comfort food? Hopefully it's something I can try to make at home from ingredients I can find in Florida.
Welsh classes on Skype
03/20/10 02:34:14PM, by Vicky Loving
I have been attending a Welsh class that I found on Meetup.Com and we just did our first session on Skype. It was amazing! I'd never used it before but it almost as good as being there in person. I am encouraging everyone interested to join us. Look for Dysgu Cymraeg on Meetup.com, you might have to look in the Philadelphia area, not sure. Any problems please contact me and I will help. Hope to see some of you there!!! Here's a link:...
